A man has been seriously injured after being assaulted outside a pub.

The attack happened outside the Buf in Prestwick, South Ayrshire, at 2.15am on Sunday.

A 50-year-old man was walking with his friend when they came across a fight involving two groups outside the pub.

The victim was assaulted by one of the men in the group and fell back before striking his head on the pavement.

He has been taken to Ayr Hospital in a serious condition.

The attacker is white and was wearing a white shirt and dark trousers.

Detective sergeant Barry Walker said: "A man is lying seriously injured in hospital and it is absolutely vital that we trace the individual responsible.

"Main Street would have been busy at the time of the incident and I would appeal to anyone who witnessed a disturbance, or anything at all which could be of significance, to please get in touch."
