A man has been jailed after a baseball attack on his girlfriend's ex-partner.

Duncan Findlay, 27, left Callum Perrie with a brain injury after targeting him as he left his home in Stirling in April this year.

A judge heard how it was 48 hours before an ambulance was called for the injured victim, who required rehab following the assault.

Findlay pleaded guilty to assaulting the victim to his severe injury, permanent disfigurement and impairment as well as to the danger of his life.

He was remanded in custody pending sentencing next month.

The High Court in Glasgow heard how both men had known each other since childhood.

Mr Perrie had been in a relationship with Jamie Lee Steel- the mum of his child.

But they separated on April 13 and she then started seeing Findlay.

The next day, Miss Steel visited her ex to hand back keys.

Prosecutor Greg Farrell said: "There was an altercation between them at this stage."

Findlay was spotted repeatedly walking past Mr Perrie's home on April 15.

Mr Perrie later left his house and was confronted by Findlay who hit him with a baseball bat.

Mr Farrell added: "He swung the bat backwards then struck Mr Perrie once on the side of the head. He fell to the ground."

The victim got home and went to bed following the attack but was taken to hospital after his condition worsened.

He was found to be in a critical condition and required surgery due to bleeding in the brain.

The court heard he would need "a prolonged period of rehabilitation".

There were further concerns about his "ability to live independently".

Lord Clark deferred sentence until December 19 in Aberdeen.
