Part of Glasgow University's Dumfries campus has been evacuated after a suspicious package was found.

Emergency services were alerted at 12.30pm on Thursday.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman told STV News that part of the Crichton campus has been evacuated as a precaution while investigations take place.

A Glasgow University spokeswoman said: "Staff and students have been evacuated from the Rutherford/McCowan building on the Dumfries campus as a precautionary measure.

"Police Scotland are in attendance and carrying out inquiries."

It comes after a controlled explosion was carried out at the university in Glasgow on Thursday after a suspicious package was discovered.

Police are linking that to three explosive devices found in London the previous day.

Princes Street in Edinburgh was also closed on Thursday after a suspicious package was discovered at the Halifax bank.
