A young girl has been injured after being struck by a car on her way to school in Glasgow.

The 12-year-old was on Eglinton Street near the city's Gorbals area when she was hit by the vehicle during Monday morning rush-hour.

Emergency services attended the scene at around 8.50am and the girl was taken to the Royal Hospital for Sick Children for treatment.

Her injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland said: "We were called about 8.50am to reports of a 12-year-old being struck by a car in Eglinton Street.

"She was taken by ambulance to the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Glasgow and inquiries are ongoing."
