A boy caused more than £3000 worth of damage after throwing a stone at a train.

The train's windscreen was cracked in the incident, which happened as it pulled into Galashiels train station.

British Transport Police said it would cost £3200 to replace as they appealed for information to identify the boy.

He was with two girls - all three were aged 15 or 16 - when he threw the stone around 3.45pm on Monday, February 18 from a pathway next to the track.

In a statement, BTP said: "The girls are described as having brown hair with blonde streaks. Both were wearing large tracksuit tops which almost reach their knees.

"One of the girl's tracksuits was green and black with a hood and had Adidas branding."
