A motorway has been closed after a pedestrian was hit by a vehicle.

The incident happened on the M73 where it joins the M80 at Mollinsburn in North Lanarkshire shortly after 2pm on Monday.

Emergency services including police and ambulance crews attended the incident.

There were no reports on the man's condition.

The road was closed northbound following the incident, with traffic diverted via Cumbernauld.

Traffic Scotland said drivers were experiencing delays of around 35 minutes as queues built up on the road.

A police spokeswoman said officers remained at the scene to conduct enquiries.
