A man was struck by a lorry after stumbling onto the motorway while working on his car on the hard shoulder.

The 61-year-old was hit on the M73 near Mollinsburn just after 2pm on Monday.

He was taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary where his condition was described as serious but stable.

Police said they believe the man was working on his white Volkswagen Passat on the hard shoulder of the northbound carriageway when he stepped or stumbled onto the road.

The motorway was closed to traffic following the collision.
