A rapist who confessed to a friend on Facebook has been jailed for four years.

Joshua Angus told a court "I don't know what rape is" during his trial for attacking a 15-year-old girl.

He twice raped the teenager in 2014 at an address in Gretna, Dumfiesshire.

Angus sent a message on social media to a friend admitting what he'd done, before sending an apology using explicit terms to his victim.

The 20-year-old was arrested after his friend went to police, and at the High Court in Glasgow on Friday he was convicted of rape.

He denied the charges and in evidence claimed: "I don't know what rape is and I don't know what sex is."

Angus also pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl while she was asleep during a bus journey from Dumfries to Glasgow on April 27, 2017.

Judge Lord Mulholland placed Angus on the sex offenders register and told him: "Rape is the most serious charge you can face other than murder."
