A runaway pig surprised rush-hour commuters on the M8 on Wednesday morning.

The animal was spotted at the side of the motorway, eastbound between the Baillieston and Shawhead junctions at around 9.40am.

Traffic Scotland posted a picture of the pig being herded to safety by three people and warned motorists to be aware of the incident.

The spokesperson stated: "I'm not telling porkies, there's a pig at the side of the road."

As well as the Trunk Road Incident Support Service (TRISS) team, a delivery driver also stopped to help round up the animal.

A van was partially blocking one lane as the animal was dealt with.

By 10am, the pig was back in a vehicle and was no longer "hogging the hard shoulder".
