Two brothers left three wedding guests unconscious after attacking them outside a reception in Glasgow.

Paviter and Armit Shergill from East Kilbride have been jailed for 16 months each after assaulting two men and a woman as they queued for a taxi in Polloksheilds.

Alan McCartney had been at the wedding with his wife Nicole and friend John Carstairs along with the Shergill brothers before the attack last February.

Paviter Shergill, 38, sparked the violence by asking Mrs McCartney: "What are you looking at."

An argument then broke out and 34-year-old Armit Shergill hit both Mr McCartney and Mr Carstairs over the head with a glass bottle.

Paviter then kicked Mr Carstairs as he lay helpless on the ground before grabbing Mrs McCartney and causing her head to smash her head against the kerb.

CCTV footage showed all three victims lying unconscious on the ground.

At their trial at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Thursday Paviter Shergill admitted to assaulting Mrs McCartney and Mr Carstairs to severe injury.

Armit Shergill also pled guilty to assaulting Mr McCartney and Mr Carstairs to their severe injury.

The court also heard how Mr McCartney suffered a bleed to the brain, a cut to his head and bruising to his left eye, and has since lost his job.

Mrs McCartney had cuts and swelling on the head while Mr Carstairs was treated for concussion and a broken finger.

Armit Shergill's lawyer John McLaughlin said: "This incident was very regrettable and terrible for the victims but it was out of character and he has a lot of regret."
