An arrest has been made in connection with the "suspicious" death of a man found in an Inverclyde flat.

Police were called to reports of a serious injury at the flat in Nelson Street, Greenock, at around 5.45am on Sunday.

Emergency services attended and the injured man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say they are now treating the death as suspicious and have confirmed that a 29-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with the incident.

Officers investigating the death are now appealing for anyone who may have witnessed anything unusual in the area between midnight and 5.45am to come forward.

A statement from Police Scotland said: "A post-mortem examination will take place in due course to establish the exact cause of death however police are treating it as suspicious at this time.

"A report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.

"A 29-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident and enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of the incident as well as the identity of the deceased.

"Detective Inspector Linda Dunn at Greenock CID would like to speak to anyone who was in the vicinity of Nelson Street, Greenock between midnight and 5.45am on Sunday, March 24 and who may have witnessed anything suspicious."
