A man has been left seriously injured after an attempted murder in Glasgow.

The 21-year-old was assaulted on Duke Street at around 12.10am on Friday.

He was with a friend near to the Duchess Bar when he became involved in a fight with three men, resulting in a serious head injury.

Emergency services attended and the man was taken to the Glasgow Royal Infirmary for treatment.

Officers investigating the murder bid are  now appealing for witnesses.

Door-to-door enquiries have been carried out and CCTV footage from the area is being checked for any additional information on the suspects.

Detective constable Cameron Wilson said: "There are several bars and take-aways in this area and it's generally pretty busy with pedestrians and traffic.

"From enquiries carried out so far there were several members of the public in the area around the time of the incident and I would appeal to them to contact us.

"Someone may have seen the group of men prior to the incident taking place or they may have witnessed the attack, please, if anyone has any information, do contact us."
