A gun has been fired during an attempted robbery at a pub in West Dunbartonshire.

Armed police were called to Dumbarton Road, Old Kilpatrick, at around 10.15pm on Sunday after three men in balaclavas entered The Twisted Thistle with a firearm.

The trio, all described as wearing dark clothing, stormed the foyer of the pub before the firearm was discharged.

There were three members of staff, all female, and one male customer in the pub at the time.

No-one was injured and nothing was stolen during the incident.

Officers investigating the incident are now reviewing CCTV footage and carrying out house-to-house enquiries in a bid to establish the full circumstances.

Detective inspector Ogilvie Ross, the officer in charge of the enquiry, is appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward.

He said: "The Twisted Thistle is a family pub and this is an incredibly rare incident in this area.

"However, we have increased high-visibility uniform patrols to help re-assure the public.

"I am appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time the incident occurred or anyone who has information about the identity of those involved to get in touch with me as a matter of urgency."
