A man was taken to hospital with a head injury after being attacked in a pub toilet.

The 58-year-old victim was assaulted at The Last Post, in Paisley's County Square, at around 3.50pm on Thursday.

The suspect left the JD Wetherspoon premises following the incident, while the injured man was taken to the town's Royal Alexandra Hospital for treatment to his head injury and was later released.

Detective constable Paul Fanning said: "We are still trying to establish the exact circumstances of this incident and if there was any motive behind this assault.

"CCTV footage has shown that another man walked into the toilet area around the time of the attack, however he walked out again and has not provided a statement to police.

"It is vital that this man contacts police as a matter of urgency as he may have information that could assist our enquiry and help trace the person responsible for this violent assault."
