A teenager was left with an eye injury after petrol was thrown at his face.

The 19-year-old was attacked while walking near McLaren Packaging in Gareloch Road, Port Glasgow, Inverclyde.

It's understood another 19-year-old, who knew the victim, targeted the man by deliberately throwing the substance from a bottle.

The attacker fled and the victim was treated in hospital for an eye injury.

Constable Neil Gorman said: "We are treating it as a suspected petrol attack.

"The victim suffered swelling to his eye.

"It was a targeted attack, it is an isolated incident, the men are known to each other.

"The victim made his own way to hospital.

"We are following a positive line of inquiry but are appealing for anyone with information to call police on 101."
