Large fire causes collapse of roof at derelict school building
The blaze broke out at Balrossie School, Inverclyde, on Monday.
A large fire caused the collapse of the roof of an abandoned school.
The blaze broke out at Balrossie School in Inverclyde at around 5.05am on Monday.
Around 20 firefighters battled the flames that tore through the extension of the derelict property in Kilmacolm.
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said four attendances were at the scene tackling the blaze, which caused the roof of the section of the property to collapse at around 6.30am.
By around 7am, the main fire was extinguished at the former List D School, which has lain vacant since closing in1997.
A spokesman for the fire service said the fire is "suspected to have been deliberate fire setting but at this time the exact cause has still to be confirmed."
Inverclyde Council building control officials have also deemed the property unsafe, the fire service said.
