School to celebrate 50th anniversary with year of events
Braidhurst High kicks off milestone year with Tam Cowan
A Motherwell school which counts a few celebrities among its former pupils is gearing up for its 50th birthday celebrations.
Braidhust High is hosting a year of special events to mark its half century, and former school captain Tam Cowan is kicking it off.
The radio presenter, writer and Steelmen diehard will chair an evening of football-themed banter with a panel of special guests.
Among them will be another old face from Braidhurst, former Scotland captain Gary McAllister, and faces from Motherwell FC past and present.
There will also be an evening with actress Elaine C. Smith, an open evening for former pupils and an anniversary prom.
Derrick Hannan, rector of Braidhurst High, said it was an exciting year ahead.
Mr Hannan said: “This is a really exciting year for the school with several special events planned.
“Former pupils can make contact with the school and we will keep them in touch with details of the events.”
Tickets for the Tam Cowan event cost £5, including a pie and Bovril at the interval, and are available from the school or by calling 01698 275555, with all proceeds going to St Andrew’s Hospice.
