Gavin Gunning leaves Dundee United following bizarre handball incident
The defender walked off the pitch in the 2-0 defeat to Inverness Caley Thistle on Saturday.
Gavin Gunning has left Dundee United with just five games of the league season remaining.
The defender was involved in a bizarre incident during Saturday's 2-0 defeat to Inverness Caledonian Thistle where he picked up the ball during play and walk off the pitch.
He then returned to the field and sat down to receive treatment on a knee injury before being replaced by Sean Dillon.
Gunning has been a regular in the United defence this season, making 21 appearances since his return to Tannadice in November.
In a statement, United said it was a "private matter" and they would not be commenting any further.
With the free transfer window closed, the 25-year old can not sign for another club until the summer.
