Docherty: Priceless goal is for Hamilton's youth academy
The 20-year-old scored the decisive goal to secure Hamilton's top flight safety.
Hamilton Accies midfielder Greg Docherty says his "priceless" winner on Saturday will make a huge difference to the club's youth academy.
Docherty's second-half strike secured a 1-0 win over Dundee United in the Premiership play-off final on Sunday, ensuring Accies will remain in Scotland's top flight next season.
The 20-year-old, who came through Hamilton's academy said the club's head of youth development George Cairns pulled him aside before the game.
"He pulled me in and said I've got to do it for the youth, we need this youth academy," he said.
"That is what it is all about at Hamilton, it's well documented it's all about our youth and I'm so glad I'm able to give something back and it may end up priceless.
"I've been here a long time and if I can give something back then I am very happy."
Docherty went on to joke that his team mates had given him the nickname 'stand-finder' due to his wayward shots on goal but says he's glad he can finally put that behind him.
"It's not a nickname I like so thankfully in the last few games I've been getting closer and closer and finally one dropped for me." he added.
