Croatia beat England to progress to World Cup final
Croatia will vie with France for the World Cup after coming out on top in extra time.
Croatia defeated England in extra time to progress to face France in the World Cup final.
Mario Mandzukic scored the winner during the second period of extra time as the Croats completed the turnaround following Kieran Trippier's stunning opener.
Trippier had got England off to a flying start after five minutes when the Spurs wing-back curled a beautiful free-kick into the top corner.
Skipper Harry Kane had the chance to double the Three Lions' lead before the break but the tournament top goalscorer fluffed his lines when put through on goal.
Croatia improved drastically after the break and their pressure would tell on the hour mark.
Winger Ivan Perisic beat Kyle Walker to the ball from a cross and volleyed in the equaliser.
The Inter Milan attacker nearly grabbed his and Croatia's second moments later but Perisic's driven effort found the bottom of the post and bounced out.
England reasserted themselves in the early stages of extra time and nearly went back in front when John Stones rose highest from a corner but the Man City defender's header was cleared off the line.
Seconds before the interval it was the Croats turn to go close, but England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford thwarted Mandzukic from close range after a tempting Perisic cross.
The Juventus forward would not be denied twice, though, and struck with ten minutes left on the clock after Perisic flicked the ball on.
