Partick Thistle sack Alan Archibald after Ross County loss
The Jags have parted ways with Archibald and assistant Scott Paterson.
Partick Thistle have sacked Alan Archibald and assistant Scott Paterson after defeat to Ross County left the Jags eighth in the Championship.
Archibald retained his position as Firhill boss following relegation to the second tier last season.
The former Jags defender was given the remit of achieving promotion back to the top flight at the first attempt but that bid had faltered after four defeats in his last five matches in charge.
Thistle have now decided to end Archibald's five-year reign as manager, with the club saying the "decision was not one that was taken lightly".
A club statement read: "As a club with a proud reputation for supporting and backing its managers, this decision was not taken lightly.
"But it has been taken in the best interests of the football club and our fans.
"We gave Alan our full support following relegation but were clear from the outset that our sole objective was to secure promotion back to the Premiership. However, results have not met our expectations so if we are to still achieve our aim, a change had to happen now."
