Challenge Cup round-up: Motherwell Colts KO Sligo Rovers
A summary of all Saturday's Challenge Cup action.
With Edinburgh City knocking out Arbroath on Friday night to take their place in the quarter-finals of the Challenge Cup, the remaining 14 sides were scheduled to battle it out on Saturday.
Motherwell Colts were up against Sligo Rovers and stunned the visitors with a 2-0 win to ensure they are the development side advancing furthest in the competition. St Mirren Colts were drawing 2-2 with Queen's Park until a late double from the Spiders sealed a 4-2 victory in Paisley.
East Fife also caught the eye with a 2-0 home win over Queen of the South while Ross County continued their strong season with a 3-1 triumph over Montrose.
Two of the ties couldn't be settled in normal time and had to be settled with a penalty shoot-out.
After a 2-2 draw, Dunfermline and Alloa went through a test of nerves with the Wasps progressing. In the first of two non-Scottish ties Bohemians and Sutton United was a stalemate but Bohemians took the match 4-3 on spot kicks.
That leaves Gap Connah's Quay and Coleraine to fight it out for the last place in the next round. They play at 7.30 on Saturday evening.
