Salim Kerkar signs new Rangers deal
The Algerian midfielder has been given a new one-year contract to remain at Ibrox.
STV understands Algerian midfielder Salim Kerkar has signed a new one-year contract with Rangers.
Kerkar moved to Glasgow from FC Gueugnon on a short-term deal in November but featured just once, as a substitute, in the 2010/11 season.
But the left sided player, originally signed on the recommendation of countryman Madjid Bougherra, has sufficiently impressed new manager Ally McCoist to be kept on at Ibrox for the new campaign.
Kerkar, 23, made his sole appearance in a 5-0 win at Motherwell in April and was regularly listed amongst Walter Smith’s substitutes.
The initial signing of Kerkar was fraught with difficulties for Rangers, after his former club FC Gueugnon insisted they would be entitled to up to £315,000 in training compensation for the player.
After the deal appeared to collapse, the two clubs then reached an agreement which will see the French side receive a portion of any future transfer fee.
