Former Celtic boss Martin O’Neill recalls his clashes with Juventus
The current Sunderland manager faced the Old Lady in the 2001/02 group stages.
Former Celtic manager Martin O’Neill says the Hoops may fancy their chances in their last 16 Champions League clash with Juventus.
The Sunderland boss had two group matches against the Turin side in 2001/02, losing 3-2 in Italy before beating the Serie A side 4-3 at Parkhead.
Neil Lennon’s side were drawn with Antonio Conte’s men after finishing second in a group containing Barcelona, Benfica and Spartak Moscow.
And O’Neill recalled his clashes with Juve before giving his thoughts on this season’s games.
He said: “That was our first foray into the Champions League, we got nine points in the group stage and we didn’t make it out of that stage which was quite unusual.
“Celtic have done fantastically, it is a great draw for them. I know Juventus are doing very, very well indeed but it is one where Celtic might feel they have a bit of a chance.”
