Holmbert Fridjonsson agrees move to KR Reykjavik after leaving Celtic
The Icelandic striker has returned to his homeland after an unsuccessful stint in Scotland.
Holmbert Fridjonsson has left Celtic and agreed a permanent deal with Icelandic side KR Reykjavik, the Icelandic club have announced.
The 22-year-old forward has agreed a two-and-a-half year contract with the side that finished third in last year’s Úrvalsdeild. The move will be completed when the Icelandic transfer window opens on July 15.
The Icelandic international had joined Celtic in 2013, having forged a reputation at HK and Fram.
Celtic’s manager at the time, Neil Lennon, had spoken of the young player’s potential but stated that he was intended to be part of the first team set-up sooner rather than later.
However, Fridjonsson did not establish himself at Celtic Park and did not play a first team match. He left the club to go to Brondby on loan last summer. The striker played 11 times for the Danish club, scoring once.
