As it happened: Celtic 2-0 Stjarnan in Champions League qualifier

Follow how the match unfolded as Ronny Deila's side took on the Icelandic champions at Celtic Park.

Stjarnan train at Celtic Park

Celtic opened their competitive campaign at home to Icelandic Champions Stjarnan as they embark on a new European adventure.

They enter the Champions League qualifiers at the second round, the first of three they will have to overcome if they're to reach the group stages.

The Hoops played host for the first-leg of the tie, welcoming Stjarnan back to Scotland just 12 months after they knocked Motherwell out of the Europa League qualifiers.

Kris Commons missed out through injury, after fracturing his toe last month but Ronny Deila handed competitive debuts to new signings Nadir Ciftci and Dedryck Boyata. Goalkeeper Logan Bailly is on the bench.

Celtic 2-0 Stjarnan

Full-time: Celtic 2 (Boyata 44, Johansen 56) Stjarnan 0. Ronny Deila's side take a satisfying lead to Iceland next week but the tie is far from over.

90 Four minutes stoppage time to be added.

82 Debutant Boyata makes way, with a competitive goal already in his locker, for Efe Ambrose to replace him in central defence.

80 Ciftci will be kicking himself after being taken off so close to that penalty, he could have had his first Celtic goal laid on a plate for him. Then again, he would have had to have battled with Johansen for it because he was making it obvious he wanted that shot...

74 It just wasn't to be for Ciftci tonight. He battled away and was desperate to find the net but he's just been replaced by Anthony Stokes...who almost scores with his first touch.

69 The atmosphere is picking up a bit now Celtic lead by two goals as both ends of the stadium sing to each other. There's a wee bit of a time delay between stands though...

59 James Forrest, who has failed to really trouble the Stjarnan defence with his crosses, is substituted for Leigh Griffiths.

Celtic 2-0 Stjarnan: Stefan Johansen doubles Celtic's lead after a nervy few moments at the opposite end.

52 Surprise and frustration ring around Celtic Park as Stjarnan come close to equalising. If they'd had someone on the back post that could have been an easy tap in for the visitors.

47 You can see the frustration on Nadir Ciftci's face as he squanders an opportunity. He's desperate to get on the score sheet tonight.

46 Stjarnan get the second-half underway at Celtic Park.

Half-time: Celtic 1-0 The home fans will be happy with their lead and Ronny Deila will now be able to up his half-time team talk with a view to scoring more after the break.

Celtic 1-0 Stjarnan: Goal for Celtic as new boy Dedryck Boyata opens his own account and breaks the deadlock.

41 Ok, scrap that, the crowd were not so up for Charlie Mulgrew's ambitious long range effort. They've reverted back to being a bit edgy now and feel a goal is long overdue.

30 With half an hour gone it's been all Celtic so far. The crowd were getting a bit edgy about the lack of goals but that Armstrong chance has changed the mood. They're getting behind their side again and trying to roar them to an opener.

21 Another good chance for Celtic to break the deadlock but Stefan Johansen drags his shot wide of the post. Is it a matter of time for Celtic or are this Icelandic side going to continue to frustrate them?

6 There are still huge queues for the ticket office outside Celtic Park. Ahh well, at least they're in the sunshine.

1 Celtic get their first competitive fixture of the 2015/16 season underway. Ciftci and Boyata are both making their home debuts.
