Tony Watt confirms his season-long loan move from Celtic to Lierse
Scotland Under-21 star aims to get in the goals and fire new side to safety in Belgian Pro League.
Belgian club Lierse SK have confirmed they have signed Celtic’s Tony Watt on a season-long loan.
The 19-year-old travelled to Lier on transfer deadline day to thrash out the deal and was paraded by the Belgian Pro League side on Sunday morning.
Speaking to official Lierse club media, Watt said: “It happened really fast. There was a meeting at Celtic and I was told there was an option to come to Belgium.
“I said it was a good opportunity and I’d like to give a try. The negotiations went smoothly and it is all sorted now.”
Watt revealed he spoke to former Celtic teammate Rami Gershon, who plays at Waasland-Beveren for advice about the move and said he wanted to come to fill the problem striker role with Lierse.
He added: “Hopefully I can score goals and avoid relegation and go as high up in the table as we possibly can.”
Meanwhile Fulham have announced that 18-year-old goalkeeper Max Oberschmidt has joined Celtic on a six month loan.
The German keeper will play in the UEFA Youth League tournament and back up first choice goalies Fraser Forster and Lukasz Zaluska.
