Celtic duo in contention for PFA Player of the Year award
Alexei Eremenko and Steven Naismith are also in the running for the gong, along with Gary Hooper and Emilio Izaguirre.
Celtic pair Gary Hooper and Emilio Izaguirre are amongst the front runners for the 2011 PFA Scotland Player of the Year award.
Kilmarnock playmaker Alexei Eremenko and Rangers’ Steven Naimsith are also in contention for the top award, which was won in 2010 by Rangers midfielder Steven Davis.
Striker Hooper is also in the running to win the Young Player of the Year award, along with Dundee United’s David Goodwillie, Aberdeen’s Chris Maguire and Hearts winger David Templeton.
The winners in each category will be announced at a dinner on Sunday, May 1.
Four players from each of the three Scottish Football League divisions are also up for the Player of the Year award in their respective leagues.
In the First Division, Dundee’s Gary Harkins and Sean Higgins have been named on the shortlist alongside Raith Rovers’ John Baird and Dunfermline Athletic striker Andy Kirk.
Livingston’s top scorer Iain Russell heads the nominees in the Second Division, along with East Fife’s Robert Linn, Brechin striker Rory McAllister and Ayr United’s Mark Roberts.
In Division Three, Stranraer pair Scott Agnew and Armand One are named with Gavin Swankie of Arbroath and Queen’s Park’s Ricky Little.
PFA Scotland Chief Executive Fraser Wishart commented of the awards: “This is the top award for players. There is no greater honour in football than to be voted the best player in your country by your fellow professionals.”
