Celtic approach Dundee Utd over pre-contract for Gary Mackay-Steven
Winger has six months remaining on his Tannadice contract.
Celtic have approached Dundee United over a pre-contract deal for winger Gary Mackay-Steven.
The winger has just six months remaining on his Tannadice contract and is free to speak to other clubs about a summer move.
On Tuesday, the Terrors rejected an £80,000 from English League 1 side Sheffield United for the player’s services.
Mackay-Steven scored as United ran out 3-2 winners over Hamilton on Monday and has four goals in his last three matches.
Sheffield United boss Nigel Clough was at New Douglas Park to watch the attacker in action.
Under FIFA rules, a club intending to conclude a contract "must inform the player’s current club in writing before entering into negotiations with him.
"Any breach of this provision shall be subject to appropriate sanctions."
After starting his career with Ross County, Mackay-Steven spent a spell in England with Liverpool before returning to Scotland with Airdrie.
He made the move to Tayside in 2011 and has been a key player under both Peter Houston and Jackie McNamara.
