Allan Johnston aiming to add 'four or five' new players to Kilmarnock squad
The new boss at Rugby Park is still looking for signings following the capture of Darren Barr.
Allan Johnston believes he will have to add "another four or five" players to his Kilmarnock squad ahead of the new season.
The new boss at Rugby Park completed the signing of Darren Barr on Wednesday, his first acquisition since taking over from Kenny Shiels.
A number of trialists, including Andy Webster, Darryl Duffy, Peter Murphy, Will Haining, Jack Smith and Ryan Harper, have spent time with Kilmarnock during pre-season, and the manager is keen to make additions.
"We've got our eye on quite a few players," Johnston told STV. "We've had a few trialists in and I hope to bring a few more in within the coming weeks.
"I believe we will need to bring in another four to five players ahead of the new campaign."
Club captain Manuel Pascali is still working his way back following a serious hamstring injury and Johnston says he will miss the start of the new campaign.
Johnston said: "He’s still on the road to recovery. I reckon he will be another four weeks before he's available to play.
"He's a big player for us and he’s kept himself in good condition but we don’t want to rush him back."
Johnston took over in his new role in late June, leaving Queen of the South after winning a Second Division and Challenge Cup double in his first season in management.
"It’s been good," he said of his time so far at Rugby Park. "I've been kept busy, I’m getting to know how the club operates and hopefully we can have a successful season."
