Neil Lennon defends Beram Kayal
Celtic manager slams critics who labelled the midfielder 'a coward' for appearing to duck away for Atletico Madrid's goal.
Neil Lennon has dismissed criticism of Beram Kayal, branding suggestions the midfielder is a coward as ‘ridiculous’.
The Israeli appeared to duck out of the way of Arda Turan’s shot which gave the Spaniards all three points in Wednesday’s Europa League game.
The goal ensured Madrid qualified for the next stage of the competition while Celtic must win in Udine to progress from the group.
However Lennon says those slamming the midfielder for his attitude on the pitch are wrong.
He said: “I think he just misjudged the flight (of the ball).
“Beram doesn’t duck out of anything so to accuse him of that (being a coward) is ridiculous.
“I don’t know if these people actually see him play. He’s one of the bravest players I’ve seen in quite a while.
“He puts his body on the line for the team more often that not.”
