Dundee United face Middlesbrough competition for Dutch striker
Prolific Dutch lower-league goalscorer Ruud ter Heide is in demand from home and abroad, according to reports.
Ruud ter Heide is a transfer target for SPL third placed side Dundee United. According to reports in Holland, the SC Cambuur striker, who is currently on loan with divisional rivals FC Emmen, is wanted by the Tannadice club but there is also interest from clubs in his homeland and English Championship side Middlesbrough.
The left-footed striker, who has scored 10 goals for his loan club in 14 appearances since his move in January, is reportedly a target for De Graafschap and Go Ahead Eagles back in Holland.
Ter Heide’s parent club, SC Cambuur, name former Hearts and Dundee United striker Mark de Vries among their ranks. The 27-year-old remains under contract with the promotion chasers until 2011 but is expected to be available at a reduced fee.
The 27-year-old, who had a spell with Werder Bremen’s second string from 2004 to 2006, told journalists in Holland that he hadn’t spoken to anyone in Scotland about a possible switch and warned that he could end up playing another year at Cambuur.
“I have heard nothing from Dundee United, let alone talked to someone,” ter Heide told ELF Football. “I'll see what happens over the next few weeks, then I hope to clarify my future.
“But, I am still under contract with SC Cambuur. They still have not decided on my future, so basically, I would return next year should they want me.”
Ter Heide started his career with current Dutch Eredivisie leaders FC Twente before moving to Germany to play for Eintracht Nordhorn. After scoring 24 goals in 30 games, he earned a move to Werder Bremen but failed to break into their first team.
He resumed his goalscoring form back in Holland with second tier club AGOVV Apeldoorn in 2005, scoring 51 goals in 102 games over three seasons, a return of exactly a goal every two games.
A move to divisional rivals SC Cambuur followed where he linked up with de Vries, scoring 14 goals in 36 appearances. A return of 3 from 13 earlier in the current campaign was hampered by the lack of a regular starting berth, leading to the player joining struggling FC Emmen on loan.
Having been in danger of relegation prior to his arrival, ter Heide has contributed to the club lifting themselves comfortably into mid-table.
