Video: Kenny Miller jets off for Turkish talks
Scotland striker Kenny Miller catches connecting flight to Turkey ahead of Bursaspor talks and one joker couldn’t resist the urge to ask him for a u-turn.
SPL top scorer Kenny Miller has taken his latest step towards an anticipated move to the continent as he jetted off for signing talks with Turkish champions Bursaspor this afternoon.
The Rangers striker, who was left out of last night’s league win over Inverness, is expected to arrive in Turkey later tonight where he will meet with Bursa club officials ahead of an immediate transfer to the Turkish Super Lig side.
Miller is out of contract this summer and had been linked with moves to Serie A side ACF Fiorentina and Premiership strugglers Birmingham City. However, it now looks certain that the 31-year old will complete his move to Bursaspor over the coming days.
Arriving at Heathrow for a connecting flight to Turkey, Miller couldn’t escape the famous Scottish football humour as one plucky Hibernian fan asked the striker if he fancied a return to Easter Road. Despite offering to help towards the player's wage himself, the fan was unable to twist Miller's arm.
Birmingham City expressed their disappointment at losing out on Miller in a statement on Tuesday night, saying the player had thought long and hard about a possible return to England before deciding upon a move abroad.
“Kenny Miller will not be joining Blues after the player's representatives informed the club that he has accepted an irresistible offer from Turkish champions Bursaspor,” the statement read.
“The club pulled out all the stops in an attempt to bring the Scotland international striker, who attracted offers from several top European clubs, to St. Andrew's.
“However the offer from Bursaspor proved to be too good for Miller to turn down and the 31-year-old has now decided to undertake the next chapter of his career in the Turkish Super Lig.
“The Glasgow Rangers man was said to have been torn over the last seven days as he considered his future and the decision to turn down the chance to link up with Alex McLeish again came as a very difficult one.
“Despite this unavoidable set back, Blues fans can rest assured that the Board and management team are continuing in their efforts to further complement the playing squad.”
