Andy Murray faces potentially perilous Wimbledon draw

Andy Murray may have to navigate a perilous draw if he is to claim his third Wimbledon title after the Scot was unseeded for the grand slam.

Murray has been omitted from the top 32 seeds at the All England Club after spending the majority of the last year on the sidelines.

The 31-year-old has recently made a positive return to the tour, though, having narrowly lost to Nick Kyrgios at Queen's Club and defeated Stan Wawrinka in the first round at Eastbourne.

Murray will continue his comeback on Wednesday when he faces British number one Kyle Edmund in round two.

A decision on his participation at Wimbledon will be made after his run in Devonshire comes to a close.

The Dunblane star's mum Judy said her son was testing himself at Eastbourne as he looks to get up to speed for a gruelling fortnight on the grass courts.

"It was great for him to have a win," she said. "The goal was always to try and play the grass court season and at some point you have to dip your toe back in the water to see where you are at.

"Any athlete who has been out for a long time will tell you the same thing, you have to build up your physical fitness and your match fitness and you can only build that up by playing matches.

"I think for him it is about seeing how he is during the match, and how he is after the match.

"That is what tennis will demand of you; if you are playing in a tournament that lasts for a week and you get to the final, you have to play five matches in seven days.

"If you play a grand slam, you're playing seven matches across 13 days and the best of five sets, so you have to test yourself and see where you are at.

"I think he had a good match at Queen's last week and had a good match yesterday with Stan, so it's just baby steps."

World number one Rafael Nadal is seeded second for the grand slam, with eight-time champion Roger Federer ranked top seed due to his past feats on the grass courts.

After enduring an injury disrupted season of his own, three-time champion Novak Djokovic is seeded 12th.
