A ten-year-old girl was hit by a lit firework in Glasgow.

The incident happened on Helenvale Street, near Parkhead Cross, on Wednesday night.

The girl did not need medical attention but was checked over at a local medical practice.

The event was later reported to police, who described fireworks as a "real danger".

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "A ten-year-old girl was struck by a live firework in Helenvale Street, near Parkhead Cross on Wednesday.

"She did not require medical attention, however she will be taken to be checked over at her local medical practice."

Meanwhile, two 18-year-old men have been reported to the procurator fiscal for allegedly throwing and setting off fireworks in an Aberdeen car park on Friday.

Local sergeant Alex Allan said: "We carry out regular patrols in this area to address community concerns regarding antisocial behaviour."

In recent weeks, fireworks have been thrown at ScottishPower engineers and through the window of a taxi.
