A new Hollywood film telling the story of Mary Queen of Scots will be shot in Edinburgh this year.

The movie will reportedly star Lovely Bones actress Saoirse Ronan as Mary Stuart, opposite The Wolf of Wall Street's Margot Robbie as Queen Elizabeth.

The film is being written by House of Cards creator Beau Willimon, according to Variety.

It is the latest blockbuster to be shot in the capital after Avengers: Infinity War and Trainspotting 2.

Parts of Waverley Station and Cockburn Street were used during the filming of Avengers.

The shoot involved a 400-strong crew and was described as one of the most complex in Edinburgh's history.

Screen agency Film Edinburgh said it is expected to have generated around £10m for the city.
